A Tour of Caerphilly
- Courtesy of Caerphilly Labour

For those of you who do not know, Caerphilly is situated 10 miles north of Cardiff, in South Wales.

Traditionally a heavy industry area the Constituency as been transformed by the deliberate destruction of the Mining Industry by the Tories.

Other, associated industries, such as Railways, and Engineering have also suffered as a result of this attack on the "Enemy within"

Well, if the Tories still think that we Welsh are the "Enemy within" then we are proud to be called that !"

There are still many reminders of the mining heritage around Caerphilly, and the associated towns such as Bargoed.

The most poignant reminder is that of the village of Senghenydd, in the Aber Valley. Here, 80 years ago, over 400 colliers were killed in an explosion. There was not a house in the village that did not have a bereavement.

A memorial was erected in 1991.

Many of the Old Mines and Railway Yards are now industrial sites, or office buildings for the new reindustrialisation of Wales.

We are very proud of the Technology Park at Tredomen, near Ystrad Mynach.

This was the first project in the Rhymney Valley to receive Objective One Money.

It has been followed by other schemes - none of which would have started without the efforts of Labour in obtaining Objective One funding.

Labour fought hard at Brussels to obtain this money. Despite the sneers of the Tories, who do not give a damn for Wales, and the negative whinging of the Nationalists who said,

  • first of all that we would not succeed,
  • they said we would never get London to match the money,
  • and finally that no scheme would ever get under way.

Well, this photo proves them wrong, on all three counts !
{short description of image} We are happy to say that further phases of the Tredomen scheme is now well under way.

Will the Nationalists appologise ? We are not holding our breath.

WELSH LABOUR - THE TRUE PARTY OF WALES !
